Five Conejo Valley Unified School District schools earned spots on California's 2026 Honor Roll for high test scores and narrowing achievement gaps.
Colina Middle, Ladera STARS Academy, Lang Ranch Elementary, Maple Elementary and Sycamore Canyon were named Honor Roll Schools by the Educational Results Partnership (ERP), a Sacramento-based nonprofit, the district announced Monday, Oct. 19. The designation recognizes schools that have shown consistently high student achievement, improvement over time and a reduction in achievement gaps among student groups.
All five campuses are in the Thousand Oaks area.
The Honor Roll drew on Smarter Balanced test scores from 2024 through 2026, released by the California Department of Education on Thursday, Oct. 15, according to SCV News. Statewide, 2,080 schools and 168 districts made the cut. That represents about 24 percent of all eligible schools and 22 percent of districts in California.
"We cannot predict every career that will exist tomorrow, but we can recognize the schools doing an exceptional job of preparing students for whatever the future holds," Alex Barrios, president and CEO of Educational Results Partnership, said in a statement.
The program, now in its 12th year, is sponsored by the Campaign for Business and Education Excellence and co-presented with chambers of commerce across the state. ERP compares schools against peer groups based on school type and poverty levels. Schools where 33 percent or more of students are socioeconomically disadvantaged are measured as "STAR" schools, while those below that threshold fall into the "Scholar" category, according to SCV News.
The analysis used data from the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress, comparing similar schools against each other over the three-year window to identify those outperforming their peers in closing gaps among higher-poverty and historically disadvantaged student populations.
