Amy Buss holds a double-digit lead in the race for the Conejo Recreation and Park District Division 4 board seat, according to early returns from the Nov. 3 election.

Buss had 3,274 votes, or about 45.8% of the total, as of the most recent count posted early Wednesday, Nov. 4, by election-tracking site The Ballot Book. Kerry Nelson trailed with 2,549 votes, or about 35.7%. Tymaeus Orfanos had 1,168 votes at 16.3%, and Dan Twedt had 155 votes at 2.2%.

Ballots are still being counted.

The four-candidate race is nonpartisan. Buss, who describes herself as an educator, veteran, mom and longtime Conejo Valley resident on her campaign Facebook page, ran what she called a grassroots campaign. She said she was not fundraising and directed potential donors to Play Conejo or Charity Karaoke instead, according to a campaign video post.

Buss received the endorsement of the Ventura County Democratic Party.

The Conejo Recreation and Park District's division election map shows five divisions covering neighborhoods including Dos Vientos, Newbury Park, North Ranch, Lake Sherwood and central Thousand Oaks.

With ballots still outstanding, Buss's lead over Nelson stands at 725 votes.
