Freshman Amira Walker scored her first career collegiate goal in the 70th minute Saturday, lifting Cal Lutheran women's soccer to a 1-0 road victory over Azusa Pacific at Cougar Soccer Complex.
The win on Saturday, Oct. 10, extended the Regals' winning streak to six games and improved their record to 9-1-3 overall, according to Cal Lutheran athletics. The Thousand Oaks program sits at 5-0-2 in SCIAC play, second in the conference standings behind Pomona-Pitzer at 6-0-1.
Walker broke a scoreless deadlock by converting a set piece after a foul. Her strike held up as the game's only goal.
The Regals needed their goalkeepers to make it stand. Reagan Keelan started in net and recorded one save in the first half. Freshman Kaitlyn Kensinger took over after halftime and made four saves in the second half to preserve the shutout. Azusa Pacific finished with 15 shots, five on target, but could not break through.
Cal Lutheran was efficient on the other end.
The Regals put seven of their eight shots on frame and earned four corner kicks. They have outscored opponents 32-7 across 13 games this season, with their only loss coming at Texas Lutheran. The Regals also drew three times: at Mary Hardin-Baylor, at Pomona-Pitzer and at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
The six-game streak includes a 3-0 win over Chapman, a 1-0 win at La Verne, a 4-1 win over Redlands, a 6-0 win at Caltech, a 6-1 win over Whittier and the shutout at Azusa Pacific. Sophomore Sawyer Frye earned SCIAC Offensive Athlete of the Week honors during the streak after scoring four goals and adding two assists in the Redlands and Caltech wins, according to Cal Lutheran athletics.
Azusa Pacific, in its first year of NCAA reclassification from Division II to Division III, was not eligible for SCIAC standings in the game.
Cal Lutheran hosts Occidental College at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, at William Rolland Stadium in Thousand Oaks. The Regals then travel to Redlands on Saturday, Oct. 17, before home games against Caltech, UC Santa Cruz and Pomona-Pitzer close out the regular season ahead of the SCIAC Tournament.
