The Conejo Recreation and Park District's Aquatics Unit received the American Red Cross Top Provider Recognition during summer 2026 for its lifesaving and water-safety training programs.
The Red Cross gives the award to agencies with strong training records in lifesaving and water safety, according to a CRPD Recreation Division highlights report.
The unit operates three pools serving Thousand Oaks and Newbury Park: the Community Pool at California Lutheran University, the Newbury Park Pool and the Thousand Oaks Pool. The district's preliminary budget allocates $1,203,432 to aquatics for fiscal year 2026-27.
The recognition follows a growing partnership between the unit and the Red Cross. In a March 2026 report, the district said its aquatics staff works with the Red Cross to offer teen volunteers who log 140 hours a sponsored lifeguard training course. That month, the unit honored a volunteer named Hazel for reaching the milestone.
