More than 200 visitors attended the Conejo Valley Art Museum's first student exhibition at the Conejo Valley Adult School in Thousand Oaks. The nonprofit now plans to make the show a yearly tradition.
The two-day exhibition on Aug. 14-15 featured paintings, experimental works and mixed-media pieces by 50 student artists at the Adult School's campus at 1025 Old Farm Road, The Acorn reported. It marked the first art show the school has hosted.
Museum president Rebecca Griffin told The Acorn the strong turnout prompted plans for a repeat.
"It was the first art show for the school and CVAM plans on having the show again next year," Griffin said.
Griffin told The Acorn that both the museum and the school's students and faculty were pleased with the response. No date has been announced for next year's exhibition.
The Conejo Valley Art Museum, a nonprofit that opened its first exhibition space in 1978, sponsored the show as part of its work supporting emerging local artists. The organization left its former space at Janss Marketplace in Thousand Oaks and is searching for a new permanent location in the city. Trustees are working to secure funding for that effort, according to The Acorn.
Board member Mindy Dorfman was among museum representatives at the exhibition, where visitors and student artists exchanged ideas about techniques, inspiration and the creative process.
The Conejo Valley Adult School, a division of the Conejo Valley Unified School District, offers art programs at its Old Farm Road campus. The museum sponsors exhibitions, lectures, classes and films across the Conejo Valley.
The museum has not announced a date for the next student show. Its annual ArtWalk, a juried fine art and craft festival that serves as the organization's primary fundraiser, is held each June. Residents can find updates on upcoming museum events through the CVAM Eventbrite page.
