Payton Hahn scored her first collegiate goal on Saturday, Sept. 26, and it was the only one Cal Lutheran needed.
The junior defender's 41st-minute strike from deep lifted the Regals to a 1-0 win over La Verne at Ortmayer Stadium, according to Cal Lutheran athletics. The victory was Cal Lutheran's fifth shutout of the season. All five of the Regals' wins have been shutouts.
Sophomore midfielder Stephenie Hackett started the sequence, sending the ball back to Hahn near midfield. Hahn unleashed a long-range shot that sailed past the La Verne goalkeeper and into the net. It was the first goal of Hahn's Cal Lutheran career. The Las Vegas native, a defender by trade, picked an unlikely moment to find the scoresheet.
Cal Lutheran controlled the first half, putting five shots on target and earning two corner kicks. La Verne managed just two first-half shots. The Regals finished the match with nine total shots and five corner kicks.
The Leopards generated more chances in the second half, putting up three shots. Junior goalkeeper Kira Kasarda turned away both of La Verne's shots on target to preserve the clean sheet. Kasarda, a Temecula native who played at Great Oak High School, has posted five shutouts in nine matches this season.
Cal Lutheran improved to 5-1-3 overall and 2-0-2 in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play under head coach Frank Marino. La Verne dropped to 1-6-1 overall and 1-3-0 in conference action.
The Regals opened the 2026 campaign 3-0 for the first time since 2016, outscoring opponents 7-0 across the opening weekend. They remain unbeaten in SCIAC play through four matches. The conference results include 1-1 draws at No. 11 Pomona-Pitzer on Sept. 16 and at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Sept. 19. Cal Lutheran then beat Chapman 3-0 at home on Sept. 23 before the road win at La Verne.
The Regals return to William Rolland Stadium in Thousand Oaks on Wednesday, Sept. 30, to host Redlands at 7 p.m.
