Max Emberson shot 11-under-par 202 to win the Folds of Honor Collegiate individual title in Grand Haven, Michigan, on Wednesday, Sept. 9, in his first college tournament.

The Thousand Oaks native and Oaks Christian Class of 2026 graduate led Georgia Tech to the team championship at American Dunes Golf Club, according to Georgia Tech athletics. The Yellow Jackets finished 18-under-par at 834 in the 54-hole event, five strokes clear of Texas and Notre Dame, who tied for second at 13-under 839.

Emberson opened the tournament with a blistering 8-under-par 63 on Sept. 7, grabbing the individual lead from the start. He shot 72 in the second round Sept. 8 and carried a one-stroke advantage into the finale.

In the final round, Emberson posted two birdies and an eagle in his first six holes before a bogey on the seventh. Nine consecutive pars followed. He birdied the 17th to push his lead to three strokes, then parred 18 to finish at 202 (63-72-67).

"Everyone in this tournament, we were playing for something bigger than ourselves this week," Emberson said in a Golf Channel interview after the win. "Representing the Folds of Honor and the past and present service members, so every time you hit a good or bad shot, [you] just had to remember that."

He finished two strokes ahead of runner-up Daniel Bennett of Texas, who shot 9-under 204. Kansas' William Baker placed third at 8-under 205, according to Texas Longhorns athletics.

The 14-team field included No. 12 Texas, No. 16 Alabama, No. 17 Florida State and No. 28 Notre Dame. Georgia Tech, ranked No. 22, was making its debut in the event.

Emberson is the first Georgia Tech true freshman to win a multi-team tournament in his collegiate debut since Luke Schniederjans won the Carpet Capital Collegiate to open the 2016-17 season.

The win caps a decorated high school career at Oaks Christian. Emberson won the CIF State individual golf championship as a sophomore in May 2024, shooting 5-under-par 66 at San Gabriel Country Club, the Los Angeles Times reported. As a junior in May 2025, he led the Lions to the CIF Southern Section Division 2 team title. He also fired a school-record 63 at Los Robles Golf Course in April 2025.

The tournament victory opened head coach Ryan Hybl's tenure at Georgia Tech. Hybl, the program's sixth head coach, took over in May.

Georgia Tech returns to competition at the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational, which runs Friday, Sept. 18, through Sunday, Sept. 20.
