Former Dodger Shawn Green will receive the first Vin Scully Stillpoint Memorial Award at the 20th annual Ross Porter Celebrity Golf Classic on Monday, Nov. 2, at Wood Ranch Golf Club in Simi Valley.
Proceeds from the tournament benefit Stillpoint Family Resources, the nonprofit that broadcaster Ross Porter's son founded nearly three decades ago to serve families and the special needs community.
The award is named for the late Hall of Fame Dodgers announcer Vin Scully, who died in 2022 at age 94. Stillpoint said on its events page that the award honors someone who has consistently prioritized the nonprofit, as Scully did throughout his life. Scully narrated a Stillpoint film called "The Goodness Project" and supported the organization for years.
Scully and Ross Porter called Dodgers games together for 28 seasons.
Green played right field for the Dodgers from 2000 to 2004. He was a two-time All-Star who hit 49 home runs in 2001, then a Dodgers single-season record. Green also holds the MLB record for most total bases in a single game with 19, set on May 23, 2002, against the Milwaukee Brewers.

A family mission
Dr. Ross Porter, the broadcaster's son, and his wife Jennifer founded Stillpoint Family Resources in 1998 after the birth of their son John Michael, who has Down syndrome. The organization serves the special needs community with programs including the Professors of Love Enrichment Program, which offers farm days, art sessions and Sunday school for young adults who have aged out of the educational system.
"John Michael is one of the great joys of our lives," Ross Porter told the Ventura County Star in November 2016. "My son knew he wanted to help people who could not afford to get the kind of help they needed, so in 1998 he established Still Point Family Resources."
The tournament previously took place at Calabasas Country Club and later at North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village before moving to Wood Ranch. More than 105 celebrities have participated over its two-decade run, according to Porter's Wikipedia page.
