Nonprofit sports groups and school booster clubs in Thousand Oaks have until 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 1, to apply for city grants worth $2,000 to $10,000.
The City of Thousand Oaks opened its 2026-27 Community Sports Grant (CSG) application period on Aug. 31 and posted a reminder on its official X account on Tuesday, Sept. 15. The grants help nonprofit community and school groups update sports facilities or purchase equipment.
There is a catch: every dollar awarded must be matched dollar-for-dollar by the applicant. A group seeking the full $10,000 would need to commit $10,000 of its own.
What qualifies
The grant covers facility upgrades and program equipment. Past recipients have used the money for baseball field netting at Westlake High School, tennis court resurfacing at Newbury Park High School, indoor golf equipment upgrades at Thousand Oaks High School, soccer field improvements at Conejo Creek South and a new ring and pen at Conejo Equestrian Park, according to the city's grant page.
Personal gear such as uniforms and helmets is not eligible. Administrative costs and general overhead are also excluded.
All funded projects must be completed between January and December 2027.
How to apply
Applications must be submitted by email only to [email protected] before the deadline. No late submissions will be accepted. The city said applicants who do not receive a confirmation email during business hours should assume their application was not received.
The grant application and guidelines are available at toaks.gov/grants. Conejo Valley Unified School District schools and booster clubs should check a separate note on that page about their eligibility requirements.
What happens next
A Council-appointed Community Funding Review Committee will evaluate applications and send recommendations to the Thousand Oaks City Council for final approval. Award decisions are expected in mid-December 2026.
Sarah Mailes, the city's community services analyst, is the program contact and can be reached at [email protected].
Upcoming
The CSG is one of four community grants the city offers during fiscal year 2026-27. The next grant cycle, the Community Environmental Enhancement Grant, opens in November.
