A 78-year-old Thousand Oaks woman was airlifted to Los Robles Regional Medical Center with major injuries after a motorcycle crash Friday, Sept. 25.
The woman was a passenger on a Harley-Davidson Street Glide driven by an 81-year-old Las Vegas man, according to the California Highway Patrol. The crash occurred in the 18000 block of South Mountain Road, just south of Santa Paula, the Ventura County Star reported, citing a CHP news release.
CHP officers received a report of the crash at approximately 12:35 p.m. Both riders were found about 50 feet down an embankment off the roadway.
The CHP's initial investigation found the motorcyclist had been traveling westbound at roughly 35 to 40 mph when he was unable to negotiate a turn ahead for unknown reasons. He veered toward gravel, lost control and continued down the embankment. The motorcycle rolled over, launching both riders.
The driver suffered minor injuries. No update on the woman's condition beyond "major injuries" has been released.
The CHP's Ventura area office is investigating.
