A 22-year-old Oak Park man pleaded guilty to two felony counts of gross vehicular manslaughter for a May 2025 crash that killed a Newbury Park couple.

Neil Liam Reb entered his plea Aug. 28 in connection with the deaths of Alejandro Ramirez, 77, and Maria Ramirez, 73, The Acorn reported. Ventura County District Attorney Erik Nasarenko announced the plea. Reb also admitted a special allegation that the offense is a serious felony.

The crash occurred May 6, 2025, at about 4 p.m. at the intersection of Via Las Brisas and Calle Del Prado in Newbury Park. Reb was driving a 2024 Jeep Wrangler when it collided with the Ramirez couple's Volkswagen Tiguan, according to prosecutors.

Ventura County Sheriff's Office investigators said Reb was driving recklessly at nearly twice the posted 45 mph speed limit. That means he may have been traveling close to 90 mph on a surface street.

The Ramirez couple died at the scene, KTLA reported. Reb suffered only minor injuries.

The Sheriff's Office arrested Reb on June 30, 2025, following its investigation into the collision.

Supervising Senior Deputy District Attorney Blake Heller, who prosecuted the case, said the plea holds Reb accountable for the couple's deaths.

"Mr. and Mrs. Ramirez lost their lives because of a reckless decision to drive at an extremely dangerous speed, and their family will have to live with that loss forever," Heller said.

Reb remains free on $50,000 bail. He is scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 9 at 9 a.m. in Courtroom 12 of Ventura County Superior Court.
