A Thousand Oaks man was arrested Tuesday, Oct. 20, after detectives linked him to alleged death threats against patrons at a community center on Borchard Road, the Ventura County Sheriff's Office said.
Reymundo Resendez was booked into the Pre-Trial Detention Facility in Ventura on charges of making criminal threats against a sensitive public location and failing to yield to law enforcement, according to a sheriff's office news release.
He is being held on $250,000 bail.
The incident began Tuesday, Oct. 13, when deputies from Thousand Oaks Police Services responded to a report of criminal threats at a community center in the 4800 block of Borchard Road. An adult male had allegedly threatened patrons with great bodily injury and death, the release stated.
A center employee activated lockdown protocols before deputies arrived, keeping those inside safe.
Detectives from the East County Investigations Bureau took over the case. Through witness interviews and follow-up investigation, they identified Resendez as the suspect.
A week later, on Oct. 20, detectives spotted Resendez driving in Thousand Oaks. When deputies tried to pull him over, he allegedly failed to yield. A brief vehicle pursuit ended in the 5000 block of Roadside Drive in Agoura Hills, where Resendez pulled over and was taken into custody without further incident.
Resendez faces charges under Penal Code Section 422.3, criminal threats to a sensitive public location, and Vehicle Code Section 2800.1, failure to yield to law enforcement. He was scheduled for arraignment at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, in Ventura County Superior Court. The outcome of that hearing was not available as of publication.
The sheriff's office news release, prepared by Sgt. Sean Taylor and approved by Capt. Albert Ramirez, listed Resendez's age as both 48 and 43 in separate sections. The Thousand Oaks Acorn reported his age as 48. Which figure is correct could not be confirmed as of publication.
Ventura County Crime Stoppers will pay up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest and criminal complaint in this case. Tips can be made anonymously by calling 800-222-8477.
