Ventura County Sheriff's detectives arrested a 43-year-old Thousand Oaks man on eight counts after a narcotics investigation turned up methamphetamine, marijuana, pills and nearly $1,000 in cash.

The man was taken into custody Tuesday, Sept. 8, at the 500 block of North Ventu Park Road in Thousand Oaks, according to a Ventura County Sheriff's Office news release approved by Capt. James Sullivan. Bail is set at $50,000.

The Thousand Oaks Directed Enforcement Unit (DEU) opened the investigation in August after detectives received information that the man was allegedly selling narcotics to Thousand Oaks residents, the Sheriff's Office said.

When detectives contacted him on Sept. 8, they observed signs consistent with him being under the influence of a controlled substance, the release stated. They also found him in possession of a burglary tool known as a "Slim Jim" and a key he was allegedly using to access a storage area in a nearby building.

A search of the man's vehicle and the storage area turned up approximately one pound of marijuana, approximately one-half pound of methamphetamine, 14 hydrocodone pills, various other pills, $940 in U.S. currency and additional evidence consistent with narcotics sales, according to the release.

He remains in custody.

Detectives also found evidence indicating the man was illegally occupying the storage space. The investigation determined he was obtaining electricity through an unauthorized connection to an outlet without the property owner's permission, the Sheriff's Office said.

The man was arrested on counts including possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance for sale, possession of marijuana for sale, possession of drug paraphernalia, being under the influence of a controlled substance, trespassing, possession of burglary tools and theft of utility services. No arraignment date has been announced.
