Three Thousand Oaks men were arrested on suspicion of felony assault after allegedly attacking a 25-year-old man near the pool area of an apartment complex on Hampshire Road.
The men, ages 24, 29 and 30, were arrested in connection with the Aug. 28 assault at the Oakview Apartment Homes at 645 Hampshire Road, according to the Ventura County Sheriff's Office. All three were booked at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility on suspicion of assault likely to produce great bodily injury under California Penal Code section 245(a)(4).
The Thousand Oaks Acorn reported Thursday, Sept. 10, that the attack began after a security guard responded to a noise complaint at the complex's pool area around 2:15 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 28. The guard spoke with several people and asked them to quiet down and leave.
Shortly after, the guard heard yelling and saw the victim being attacked near the pool and barbecue area. Multiple people knocked the victim to the ground and punched, kicked and stomped him, according to the Sheriff's Office. He suffered injuries to his head, face and body.
Detectives determined the assault followed a confrontation in which several people questioned the victim about whether he had contacted law enforcement about the noise disturbance.
The public appeal came 13 days after the assault. The Sheriff's Office believes additional people may have been present during the attack and wants to hear from anyone who can help piece together what happened.
Investigators laid out specific categories of witnesses they want to reach. They are looking for anyone who was in the pool or barbecue area that night, anyone who saw the assault itself, anyone who noticed people leaving the area afterward and anyone who took photos or recorded video.
The Ventura County Star reported that deputies responded to the complex around 2:30 a.m. The Sheriff's Office is contracted to provide police services for Thousand Oaks.
The Sheriff's Office has not announced an arraignment date for the three suspects. Officials have not publicly disclosed the victim's condition.
