Thousand Oaks voters can size up six City Council candidates at two free forums before the Tuesday, Nov. 3 general election.
The first forum takes place Thursday, Sept. 17, at California Lutheran University's Lundring Events Center, 60 W. Olsen Road. The Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce is hosting the event, which runs from 6 to 8 p.m.
No registration is required.
Candidates for Ventura County Community College District Area 2, Roger Bowerman and Lou Lichtl, are scheduled from 6:15 to 6:45 p.m. Thousand Oaks City Council candidates take the stage from 6:50 to 7:50 p.m., the Thousand Oaks Acorn reported.
The council races feature Karen Arreola and Mikey Taylor in District 1, Gus Gougas and Kyle Rohrbach in District 2, and Victor Hayek and David Newman in District 3. All three seats are four-year terms, according to the city's candidate manual.
Becca Whitnall, editor of the Thousand Oaks and Simi Valley Acorn Newspapers, and Dr. Haco Hoang, a political science professor at Cal Lutheran, will moderate. They will develop and ask all questions. A livestream will be available on the Chamber's Facebook page.
Danielle Borja, president and CEO of the Greater Conejo Valley Chamber, said in a Sept. 11 Acorn article that the forum gives residents and business owners a chance to learn where candidates stand on issues shaping the region.
A second forum follows on Thursday, Oct. 1, at the Thousand Oaks City Council Chambers, 2100 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd. The League of Women Voters and AAUW Thousand Oaks are co-hosting. Assembly District 42 candidates Ted Nordblum and Deborah Klein Lopez go first, from 6 to 6:45 p.m. The same six council candidates appear from 7 to 8:15 p.m., according to the Ventura County Star.
The League of Women Voters and AAUW Thousand Oaks will also hold a nonpartisan review of November ballot measures at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4, at the Thousand Oaks Library's Marvin Smith Conference Room, 1401 Janss Road. Videos of League-hosted forums will be posted within days at LwvVenturaCounty.org.
Vote-by-mail ballots go out to all registered voters starting Monday, Oct. 5. The last day to register is Monday, Oct. 19.
